The length of the 99 cent story

So, th 99 cent story appears to be an increasingly popular format, giving the rise of ebooks– but a question is asked…how long do you feel a story should be before it is worth that coveted almost-a-dollar from your pocket?  Does it have to be complete or can you tolerate several chapters?  What do you feel is the proper length and style that makes that 99 cents a steal for you rather than the author?
